Amperon Solar Calculator
A digital strategy and an AI-assisted solar calculator for a Swiss solar installer, from aerial photo to quote request.

The challenge
Amperon installs solar systems in canton Aargau. Its website had a contact button and not much else, so every enquiry needed a long consultation before anyone knew whether a project made sense. The brief for our group of five: more qualified leads, with less advisory work per sale.
The strategy
We started with the marketing groundwork: situation and competitor analysis, PESTEL and SWOT, the customer journey of a homeowner thinking about solar, KPIs, and an SEO audit with quick wins, keyword clusters and local search. The key insight: competitors offer calculators, but none of them take you all the way to an offer.
The calculator
I built the solar calculator that closes that gap:
- Your roof, from public data: enter an address and the calculator loads the roof from Swiss federal data and places the modules directly on the aerial photo, respecting edge distances.
- AI that suggests, you confirm: an image model proposes chimneys and skylights, and the homeowner only has to accept or reject each one.
- Honest numbers: an hour-by-hour simulation over a full year gives the yield, costs as a range, subsidies and payback time.
- An AI advisor explains the result in plain words, using only numbers that come from the calculation, and checks its own sentences against them.
- A quote request as a PDF at the end, plus an internal tool for Amperon to review the leads.
Built with TypeScript, React, OpenLayers, Tailwind CSS, Hono and the Claude API.
Where it stands
The final presentation is on 30 November 2026. Until then the calculator is being refined with Amperon; it isn't live yet.
What I learned
Marketing and product can't be planned separately. The best lead magnet we found wasn't a campaign but a tool that answers the customer's first question better than a phone call would.
